Everyone who is planning a trip to Iceland will most likely check the Internet for answers. The Icelanders feel that such an approach is too impersonal and are therefore now offering a personal search platform for tourists to seek out the country’s hidden secrets. This platform launched on April 28, 2015. There are a total of seven people who will be responding to any questions from spring to fall.
This search service is called ‘Ask Guðmundur’.
‘Guðmundur’ is one of the most popular names in Iceland; there are about 4000 men and women who are called ‘Guðmundur’ or ‘Guðmunda’ (if female), an unpronounceable name in the Icelandic language. It is described as a search engine with a personal touch.
It is very simple, here is how it works:
You submit your question via Twitter (hashtag #AskGudmundur) or Facebook and one of the Guðmundurs will respond to you with a very personal touch.
Juline Zeit, for example, asked this question on Twitter:
“Why are there always three sheep? I mean, literally: always! #AskGudmundur”
Guðmundur responded via YouTube with a sheep on his arm, standing in a sheep barn. He explained that single sheep moms always (well, most of the time) give birth to two little lambs. He invited the searcher to come visit, explaining that it is spring and the sheep just had their little ones. Here is the answer Juline received: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eYN1LvniNo&list=PLnFEyAhzS0zgLL6XacuNg-7l050RKmaps&index=6&spfreload=10
